Why Dads Love FishingMillions of dads the world over take time out from their normal activities and secular jobs to go fishing. Wives and kids when asked where their dads’ at would usually answer:“Dad’s gone fishing”. I’ve personally tried fishing at a freshwater pond once when I was a kid and I honestly found it rather boring. From trying to get the spinner bait, hooking it on to the rod then waiting for what seems to be ages isn’t very appealing to a lot of people especially the youth. That being the case, what do dads find so appealing about fishing? In my opinion: * They love the outdoors- unlike most of us the younger generation who have all the electronic gadgets, sci-fi movies and action packed video games to keep us company, our dads’ generation probably had none of those. They enjoyed the outdoors, going hunting and I’m sure fishing with their dads or buddies. Fishing gives them a chance to be ‘young’ again and do the things they used to. * Alone time- fathers are the most pressured and have loads on their minds everyday. They seek a time to clear their minds. I guess they were able to find a solution to some big family problem while out on the quite waters fishing. The fact that usually none of the kids and more so wife would be keen on going with them really makes fishing their ‘alone time’. * It’s a ‘guy’ thing- all men want to be the leader, the one everyone listens to-dominant. When they’re getting a lot of bragging etc from the world, whats one thing that makes them feel like a man, something they have total control of?FISH! Being able to lure the fish and man handle into the boat makes them feel like the boss. That’s why they love fishing- it gives them a sense of success, proves that they can do something right and makes them feel alot better after some event at work or home. * They get to tell stories- just like how they love to reminisce their childhood, fishing experiences give them something to talk about with their buddies. With all the fun and experience you get with fishing, why isn’t it that popular? It requires a lot of patience-something that most dads have learned through all their experiences in their lives and something that many haven’t yet developed. Maybe its about time we all tried to get away from the cities and enjoy some peace and quiet, start cultivating patience and discover the benefits of fishing.
